Captain Richard Dann presentation on the Navy's history captivated the audience. Captain Dann showed a remarkable collection of photos and some beautiful illustrations of Navy planes in commemorative colors and markings.
Master Modeler David Weeks showed his scratch-built 1/48 scale Saturn 1B/Apollo 7 that he entered in the IPMS National Convention earlier in the month. David's model made first place in Space & Science Fiction Vehicles. It also won the Best Space/Science Fiction Award...
...the Best Sculpted/Scratch-built Entry... ...and the best of the best, the George Lee - Judges' Grand Award "Best of Show". Congratulations David! Manny Gutsche brought his 1/72 scale RA-5C Vigilante.
Manny's model was also entered in the 2010 IPMS National Convention competition and also won an award... ... Second Place in Aircraft Medium Jet 1/72 Scale. Congratulations Manny!
Gary Williams brought his work-in-progress Trumpeter 1/32 scale F-8 Crusader that he decided to build after attending the IPMS National Convention. Gary added Eduard's painted cockpit details.
Even the eventually non-exposed engine shows nice detail. Scott Langille brought his work-in-progress AFV Club Stryker on which he installed a 105mm gun.
Bob Ekstrom shows his 1/32 scale Flying Sub, made from several kits. Bob opened the intakes, replaced the engine exhausts with PE parts and added seats, pilots, joy stick, etc...
Craig Burke brought two versions of a Heinkel 100, kit bashed from various parts, and with "what-if" appropriate camouflage patterns.
Staying loyal to the 1/32nd scale, Mike O'Leary brought a beautifully made, rare Zoukei-Mura Kyushu J7W1 kit. Tony Bunch brought a Revell 1/350 Type-7 U-Boat
Ethan Idenmill brought a 1/35 scale Warrior figure that was included in a figure painting seminar at the 2010 IPMS Nation Convention. Another view of Tony's U-Boat.
Jerry Jackson started work on a 1/700 scale resin kit from L'Arsenal of the HMS Bider, a WWII Royal Navy escort aircraft carrier.
The hull has its basic camouflage paint, although Jerry is not sure about the color that he's used. The deck still shows bare plastic.
Mike Potter brought another British ship, a 1/700 scale model of the HMS Ness, a WWII Royal Navy River Class Frigate.
Mike shows how small detail has to be handled on this tiny model. Two ships of the same scale, HMS Bider and HMS Ness.
Tony also brought a 1/350 scale Tamiya model of the USS Missouri, a stalled project. Rex McCoy brought this 1/350 scale USS Montrose (APA-212), a Haskell class attack transport.
Displayed as part of River Flotilla 1, Rex's model includes a pontoon barge, four amphibious crafts, crewmen and supply pallets.
Thanks to all who participated in this meeting and made it a very interesting event!
