IN MEMORIAM

Craig Burke

1948-2013

Craig Burke, a long time IPMS San Diego member, was an extraordinary model builder, and an amazing story teller.

Through his "What if" favorite theme, he came up with some fantastic hypothetical models and always had similarly fantastic stories to complement the models. His favorite subjects were WWII German and Japanese aircraft. He often batched together several 1/72 scale kits, and he has mastered himself in beautiful camo painting schemes.
Craig also constructed an occasional ship or car. His most significant model was actually a non-fiction one,the USS Enterprise CV-6 on which his father had served during the 1942 sea battles, including Midway.

His model, based on a 1/480 scale Revell kit of the USS Enterprise, featured an all-wooden deck made from Douglas fir planks taken from the flight deck of the real carrier while she was being broken up for scrap in 1958.
From his father's memories of life aboard the Enterprise and through reading "Then There Was One", Eugene Burns' account of the Enterprise's first year of WWII, Craig developed a passion for sea battles and war ships that led to his creation of fictitious Japanese Imperial Navy ships stories, published on combinefleet.com.

He was also a member of whatifmodelers.com, on which website his model gallery reflects his endless imagination and his great modeling skills.

Craig passed away on 4 February 2013. He will be missed by many.
